Concerned One

Dear Judy, I have been watching the news and seeing so many hopeless people living on the streets or in cars in California. I pray but seems like I should be doing more. Do you have some insight for me?

Dear Concerned One,

I was born and raised in California, and still live in this beautiful state. My husband Vic was raised in Wheatland, Wyoming. There are huge differences between these states that make the homeless population different. One difference is the weather! The weather is milder in California so it’s easier to survive outside.

There are many reasons people are homeless. They do not just wake up one day on the streets. The housing prices and cost of living have sky-rocketed in California. Some of these people have jobs. Some have 2 jobs, but they still cannot afford to buy a house, let alone rent one. Some of them with jobs just live in their cars and take showers at the gym. They have a cover over their heads, but it’s a very, very hard life.

Drugs and alcohol have brought many people down to homelessness. Some are mentally ill with nowhere to go.

Nevertheless, all of these people need HOPE! Vic and I go to the streets taking lunches and warm socks, etc. which helps for a short while, but the main reason we are out there is to tell the people about Jesus and the hope they can have in Him. This is the one thing that can truly change them inside out.

Only an intervention of Jesus Christ into our society can change situations. Shelters, rescue missions, mental help facilities, and lower cost of housing are all good things, but prayer is the greatest thing any Christian can do because prayer moves mountains. So I encourage you to keep praying. Prayer is the highest calling to help all who need help . Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice (Psalm 55:17).

Does it matter which Bible version is used? The New International Version is easier to read than the King James Version, but the Amplified Bible gives better descriptions. Thank you!

This is the first month in a New Year and I am sure we all made some declaration for this New Year which wholes new beginnings if we will allow them to be. Instead of giving up I always add something to my walk with the Lord and when I do that it seems to take care of what I should give up or change.
