Believer

Dear Judy,

I want to first say, Judy, I love the Lord! But I’m having trouble keeping out thoughts of despair as I watch the news every day. The shooting of innocent people coming out of nowhere. How to cope?

Dear Believer in Jesus,

You use the word cope which means “to face and deal with responsibilities, problems, or difficulties successfully or in a calm or adequate manner.” The first step you have taken is accepting and loving the Lord. With this in place, you have Him as your refuge. Plus, He has given you a manual for success no matter what is happening around you – the Bible.

1 Peter 5:6-10 says, Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

We must remember who is behind all this discord and killing. When we start to get frustrated, we need to cast the reason for that on the Lord. Anything that causes us distress becomes a care in our life, and it needs to be given to the Lord. The devil looks for those who are burdened down with worldly concerns. They become an easy target for his dirty work.

I strongly suggest that you search the Bible for promises from the Lord and stand firm on them. Don’t be wavering in and out of believing, but trust that our Lord is faithful no matter what. How to cope is only done by the Word of the Lord . . . and maybe shutting off the TV. Hope this helps!

Does it matter which Bible version is used? The New International Version is easier to read than the King James Version, but the Amplified Bible gives better descriptions. Thank you!

I worship with a loving group of people, but I think I'm outgrowing most of them, spiritually. I want more from my relationship with the Lord than what is being presented to me where I am. How will I know when it's the right time to move on?
