Fearful One

Dear Judy, As I get on in years, I’m losing some long-time friends to cancer. Most of them go through terrible times. I have no one who could care for me if I were to go through what they have. Frankly, I'm really scared of that C word. I keep checking for lumps, afraid one day I'll find one! This concern is starting to control my thoughts. I’m afraid.

Dear Fearful One,

My first question is, Are you a believer? Since this is a Christian column, I’m guessing you are a Christian. I don’t know of anyone who likes the C word, as you put it, but being scared is certainly NOT the answer. Each of us must choose our own path if cancer were to manifest in our life. A believer sure has more help than a non-believer. Believers have made Jesus Christ their Savior and Lord so they have the promises in His Word to stand on, trust in, and believe . Isaiah 59:19 says, “So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.”

I always pray that the Big C – Christ will devour the little c – cancer! The Book of Job (3:23) says that which he feared most came upon him. Fear is a horrible enemy. The enemy is the source of all evil, and cancer is evil. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). God does not give us fear because he is the God of the impossible. He is our healer.

A sound mind can comprehend things. He (Jesus) was beaten and shed His blood for our spiritual healing and physical healing . “… He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). We are healed. Claim it! It’s up to us to stand on this promise. We cannot base our faith on someone else’s experience! We have an opportunity to rise up with the God-faith we need, standing on the promises trusting and believing, yes, but we must also apply and live it out.

If you are not a believer, then yes, you can be scared, but if you are a believer, you have a manual for success in every area of your life. THE BIBLE. Get in it and renew your mind on how you are a child of the King and you have all of heaven on your side! Pray this – “Your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.” NO little C in heaven. ONLY THE BIG C—CHRIST.

Does it matter which Bible version is used? The New International Version is easier to read than the King James Version, but the Amplified Bible gives better descriptions. Thank you!

Dear Judy, I want to first say, Judy, I love the Lord! But I’m having trouble keeping out thoughts of despair as I watch the news every day. The shooting of innocent people coming out of nowhere. How to cope?

This is the first month in a New Year and I am sure we all made some declaration for this New Year which wholes new beginnings if we will allow them to be. Instead of giving up I always add something to my walk with the Lord and when I do that it seems to take care of what I should give up or change.
