Communion Confused

Dear Judy,

I feel this is a silly question but the church I go to takes communion once month. Why only once a month?

Dear Confused,

I want first to say there is no such thing as a silly question only silly when we do not ask the question. Communion or also called the Lord’s supper is an ordinance given to Christian to follow reminding us what Jesus did for us at Calvary. Remember just like water baptism is an ordinance given by Jesus they do not save us. Only believing in Jesus Christ does that.   It is a time of celebration and remembrance when we eat of the bread and drink of the cup. We are to remember and but worth to how Jesus gave Himself completely to give us and all humanity a better life, and new start. I do not believe Jesus is so concerned about the method of partaking of the bead which represents His body or drinking of the cup which is symbolizes His blood, but that during this time of communion with Him and other that we celebrate His victory for us.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26  "For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, 'Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.'  In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.'  For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. Jesus was broken for us so that we can be made whole by Him."

As often means this is not restricted to any time frame! So to answer your question, different fellowships select a certain time so all can celebrate together. Some fellowships do communion every Sunday. That is up to the Pastor of the fellowship. But we can take part in the celebration of the Lord’s supper by ourselves at home, in a home group, or other places.  But as often as we partake we are to remember it is all about Jesus, we should celebrate and be so thankful to Jesus. He provides all we need both physically and spiritually.

Well, let me start with the most important thing you bring up. I noticed the word I THINK in your question. Just because you go to church does not mean you are a born-again believer.

I know I am supposed to be joyful this time of the year, but I am not! It all seems so plastic and empty to me, even in the church! Feeling Pretty Empty

Have you ever thought about the word “wilderness” and what that means for the Christian and the non-Christian? To be a Christian we must believe—which is to trust and have confidence that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again! Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

STAY WATCHFUL! I am sure we can all agree, 2025 started off with much tragedy and woe! Terrorist attacks killing many, devastating fires in the LA area, a horrible plane and helicopter collision, and another plane crash two days later! Many families in mourning. Truly, the devil is out to steal, kill, and destroy, and sadly, he’s doing a good job at it. But remember, our Lord is far greater than the devil, and He is ultimately in control.

Christianity 101—Life with God after Salvation We are living in very tough times that are only getting harder. As followers of Jesus, we should be strong in the Lord and full of faith, experiencing the God of the impossible. But are we? Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” I believe Jesus is looking at us and our fellowships and asking if we truly believe this. Are we living this Scripture out to a watching world?

We are living in some very dark, wild times. Our manual for success (the Bible) tells us to know the seasons in which we live. We must be alert and watchful and know and understand how our success manual tells us to have success.
