Discontent

Dear Judy,
I am a Christian and I pray and read my Bible each day. I have not been able to find a church I like so here’s my question. Why do I need to go to church when I can watch good Christian programs on TV and praise the Lord at home?

Dear Discontent,

I hear this same question a lot so I shall tell you as I tell others. Television is meant for those who are shut in and cannot get to a fellowship. When a Christian who is able to drive or take a bus or get a ride sits in front of the television is not getting the corporate anointing our Lord intended for us to get. We need other Christians and they need us!

The governmental ministries are given to us by Jesus Christ! Ephesians 4:11-12 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. The Lord wants us to be equipped and edified! I have been preaching and teaching for 28 years now and if I am not standing in the pulpit doing that, I am sitting on the pew learning from the one who is preaching and teaching in the pulpit.

It is not about what we like, but what Jesus commands, and He commands us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to the exact fellowship to attend.

Remember there are NO perfect fellowships because they are all made up of Christians—i.e. humans! And there is no perfect Christian. We are all being perfected day by day. We need one another. We need accountability also which we are not going to get from the TV. We are supposed to be reading, praying, and being equipped so we can apply to our lives what we are learning.

So bottom line to your question is we need one another and that is not found on TV.

Well, let me start with the most important thing you bring up. I noticed the word I THINK in your question. Just because you go to church does not mean you are a born-again believer.

I know I am supposed to be joyful this time of the year, but I am not! It all seems so plastic and empty to me, even in the church! Feeling Pretty Empty

Wilderness landscape

Have you ever thought about the word “wilderness” and what that means for the Christian and the non-Christian? To be a Christian we must believe—which is to trust and have confidence that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again! Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

STAY WATCHFUL! I am sure we can all agree, 2025 started off with much tragedy and woe! Terrorist attacks killing many, devastating fires in the LA area, a horrible plane and helicopter collision, and another plane crash two days later! Many families in mourning. Truly, the devil is out to steal, kill, and destroy, and sadly, he’s doing a good job at it. But remember, our Lord is far greater than the devil, and He is ultimately in control.

Christianity 101—Life with God after Salvation We are living in very tough times that are only getting harder. As followers of Jesus, we should be strong in the Lord and full of faith, experiencing the God of the impossible. But are we? Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” I believe Jesus is looking at us and our fellowships and asking if we truly believe this. Are we living this Scripture out to a watching world?

We are living in some very dark, wild times. Our manual for success (the Bible) tells us to know the seasons in which we live. We must be alert and watchful and know and understand how our success manual tells us to have success.
