Fearful One

Dear Judy,
It seems like everything in this world is getting so dark. In my own town I see violence everywhere and sickness. So much devastation with fires, tornadoes, flooding. . . the uncertainty scares me. I go to church, read my Bible and pray but fear at times tries to grip me almost paralyzing me. Help!

Dear Fearful One,
You are so right about the world and the uncertainties we’re facing, but we Christians are the ones who have to stand fast in the midst of the darkness. Instead of being in fear, we are to see Who the Light is in the darkness. His name is Jesus!

As we read our Bible and apply what we are reading, we will keep our focus on the promises instead of the problems. When fear comes we must remember what the Apostle Paul says to us in II Timothy 1:7:For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. This verse says 1) God does not give fear, and 2) it is a spirit, so 3) where is it from? Fear comes from the devil so rebuke it and live in love and have a sound mind that is able to comprehend all things.

Sometimes we just have to turn off the news and certainly get off Facebook and just mediate on all the scriptures that hold all the promises of God. This will keep us through, no matter what comes our way.

Key to this is to not hold the cares of our life, the cares of the world, or anyone else’s cares. Again, apply the scriptures such as 1 Peter 5:7: casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. The first care in this verse is any anxiety, stress, distraction, preoccupation with insecurity, or worry! It suggests the kinds of thoughts that trouble us and keep us from peace of mind and joy in the Lord. The second care in this verse is talking about the care of the Lord which is His concern about us and if we caste our worry to Him He will handle it for us. Our God knows all things and He loves us. We can cast all of worry, anxieties, and insecurities upon Him because He cares for us. Are we in tough times? Yes but the end of the Bible says we win, so stand on winning!

Well, let me start with the most important thing you bring up. I noticed the word I THINK in your question. Just because you go to church does not mean you are a born-again believer.

I know I am supposed to be joyful this time of the year, but I am not! It all seems so plastic and empty to me, even in the church! Feeling Pretty Empty

Wilderness landscape

Have you ever thought about the word “wilderness” and what that means for the Christian and the non-Christian? To be a Christian we must believe—which is to trust and have confidence that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again! Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

STAY WATCHFUL! I am sure we can all agree, 2025 started off with much tragedy and woe! Terrorist attacks killing many, devastating fires in the LA area, a horrible plane and helicopter collision, and another plane crash two days later! Many families in mourning. Truly, the devil is out to steal, kill, and destroy, and sadly, he’s doing a good job at it. But remember, our Lord is far greater than the devil, and He is ultimately in control.

Christianity 101—Life with God after Salvation We are living in very tough times that are only getting harder. As followers of Jesus, we should be strong in the Lord and full of faith, experiencing the God of the impossible. But are we? Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” I believe Jesus is looking at us and our fellowships and asking if we truly believe this. Are we living this Scripture out to a watching world?

We are living in some very dark, wild times. Our manual for success (the Bible) tells us to know the seasons in which we live. We must be alert and watchful and know and understand how our success manual tells us to have success.
