Irritated One

Dear Judy,

I am having a hard time dealing with unsaved people in my family. They curse, they get angry easily, and sometimes they drink, among other things. I don’t even want to be around them! What does the Bible say about not wanting to be around people like that in your family? I get irritated easily when I’m with them. While I love them, most of the time I don’t even like them, and I’m ashamed of feeling this way.

Dear Irritated One,

Because you are born again and a follower of Christ, you now have the Holy Spirit to lead you into all truth and show you things to come. Whether it is family or not, it is hard not to get irritated when evil things are going on around us.

Unsaved people think and do things differently than believers in Jesus. When we become saved, the things of this world should cause us to be agitated! We now live by what the Bible says and the principles of the Kingdom of God, not the world. The words of the prophet Isaiah speak volumes to us. Isaiah 5:20: Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Before we came to Christ and gave our life to Jesus, we too lived in darkness and did not know the light of Jesus Christ.

We are to pray for the unsaved, but we cannot participate in their wrong! No reason to be ashamed because Jesus speaks about separating ourselves from evil, and family is the hardest. Jesus teaches us very clearly that He did not come to bring peace but to separate the righteous from the unrighteous! Jesus said in Matthew 10:34-37, Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;  and a man's enemies will be those of his own household. These are hard words but necessary for the Christian to understand and to stand for the truth of the Gospel, no matter who it is, even our family members.

Stay in prayer and the Word. Trust and believe. Just as our Lord drew us to salvation, He shall draw others.

Well, let me start with the most important thing you bring up. I noticed the word I THINK in your question. Just because you go to church does not mean you are a born-again believer.

I know I am supposed to be joyful this time of the year, but I am not! It all seems so plastic and empty to me, even in the church! Feeling Pretty Empty

Have you ever thought about the word “wilderness” and what that means for the Christian and the non-Christian? To be a Christian we must believe—which is to trust and have confidence that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again! Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

STAY WATCHFUL! I am sure we can all agree, 2025 started off with much tragedy and woe! Terrorist attacks killing many, devastating fires in the LA area, a horrible plane and helicopter collision, and another plane crash two days later! Many families in mourning. Truly, the devil is out to steal, kill, and destroy, and sadly, he’s doing a good job at it. But remember, our Lord is far greater than the devil, and He is ultimately in control.

Christianity 101—Life with God after Salvation We are living in very tough times that are only getting harder. As followers of Jesus, we should be strong in the Lord and full of faith, experiencing the God of the impossible. But are we? Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” I believe Jesus is looking at us and our fellowships and asking if we truly believe this. Are we living this Scripture out to a watching world?

We are living in some very dark, wild times. Our manual for success (the Bible) tells us to know the seasons in which we live. We must be alert and watchful and know and understand how our success manual tells us to have success.
