"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come" - 2 Timothy 3:1
The words BUT KNOW THIS should certainly draw our attention! I see so many people just coming and going, doing their own thing! The Bible is to be taken seriously, and if we do not read it, we will not know what it says and what to obey! We certainly cannot get training and all the biblical understanding we need on just a Sunday morning! So, we must read and study our manual for success (the Bible) ourselves!
The word perilous means morally corrupt, difficult, dangerous, fierce, grievous, and the one I like is “reducing the strength!” That is so true! We can look around and see people living in all these messes. The sad part is people believe those messes are reality, the way it should be, and they become dull and get used to it. This should never happen to a child of God! We cannot allow what is happening to reduce our strength but should cause our faith in Jesus Christ and His promises to make us even stronger!
The last two words of this scripture says WILL COME! Well, those times have come! They are here now, all over the world! Culture now calls evil “good” and good is evil. People do not know their right from the left!
As followers of Christ, our hearts should be concerned about people’s destiny – hell or heaven. Our commission is to bring people to Jesus Christ Who, on the cross, paid the price of sin for everyone. If people will make Him their Savior, then HEAVEN becomes their home. If they do not, then we must have a sad heart because HELL will be their home . . . forever! This is reality!
All ways do not lead to heaven. What I mean is we cannot serve the god of self or the god of anything else – money, fame, other religions. One of the saddest songs of old was Frank Sinatra’s song, “I did it my way.” We must surrender all we are and ask for forgiveness of our sins. Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father who is the CREATOR OF ALL!
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
If we belong to the Lord Jesus Christ, we have hope and that is reality! Christian hope means to anticipate with pleasure that the Word works! Our hope has an anchor, and an anchor holds something tight in place! We are a spirit, we have a soul (mind, will, emotions) and we live in a body! It is our soul that gets us in trouble so put an anchor on it. Our Father’s OATH and COVENANT hold us steadfast amid the storm! Our Lord wants to touch people through us, showing them they too can have HOPE amid these perilous times.
"This hope we have as an anchor of the soul (mind, will, emotions), both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil." Hebrews 6:19
