Fearful One

Dear Judy,

I'm older and have seen long-time friends get cancer and all they go through. I have no one who could care for me if I were to go through what they have. Frankly, I'm really scared of that C word. I keep checking for lumps, afraid one day I'll find one! This concern is starting to control my thoughts.

Dear Fearful One,

You did not say whether or not you are a Christian. If you are not, then it’s understandable that you are afraid. But if you are a Christian, you have no business being overly concerned (or obsessed in your case) with the C word! A child of God is told not to fear!

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

This verse says God did not give us this fear, so it comes from the enemy. God gives us power, love, and a sound mind and a sound mind has no fear in it. If you have no one to help you go through something overwhelming, remember, you have your Lord who promises to be with you always.

If a Christian walks around afraid of getting something, what kind of conduct is that showing  others? What kind of Christian are we if we are not believing our Lord loves us so much that he died for us and will help us through whatever comes our way?

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." So we may boldly say: "The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?" Hebrews 13:5-6

We have eternal life! The unbeliever cannot say that. Only we who believe in Jesus Christ and His promises can.

Job 3:25 is a sobering verse. Job says, “For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me.” So instead of all your focus going to a “what if” mentality, allow your focus to go on God’s healing promises, His shelter and refuge promises, and all His other promises to His children. As our former President Franklin D. Roosevelt aptly put it, “We have nothing to fear but fear itself!” As a Christian, you be that person who goes through difficulties with the Lord Jesus Christ at your side! What a comfort that will be to you, and testimony to all around you.

Well, let me start with the most important thing you bring up. I noticed the word I THINK in your question. Just because you go to church does not mean you are a born-again believer.

I know I am supposed to be joyful this time of the year, but I am not! It all seems so plastic and empty to me, even in the church! Feeling Pretty Empty

Have you ever thought about the word “wilderness” and what that means for the Christian and the non-Christian? To be a Christian we must believe—which is to trust and have confidence that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again! Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

STAY WATCHFUL! I am sure we can all agree, 2025 started off with much tragedy and woe! Terrorist attacks killing many, devastating fires in the LA area, a horrible plane and helicopter collision, and another plane crash two days later! Many families in mourning. Truly, the devil is out to steal, kill, and destroy, and sadly, he’s doing a good job at it. But remember, our Lord is far greater than the devil, and He is ultimately in control.

Christianity 101—Life with God after Salvation We are living in very tough times that are only getting harder. As followers of Jesus, we should be strong in the Lord and full of faith, experiencing the God of the impossible. But are we? Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” I believe Jesus is looking at us and our fellowships and asking if we truly believe this. Are we living this Scripture out to a watching world?

We are living in some very dark, wild times. Our manual for success (the Bible) tells us to know the seasons in which we live. We must be alert and watchful and know and understand how our success manual tells us to have success.
